National Crime Victims' Service Awards. Submit Your Nominations Online by October 10, 2008.OVC is now accepting nominations for the 2009 National Crime Victims’ Service Awards. The deadlines for application submission are approaching fast. Nominations sent by mail are due October 3, 2008. Applications submitted using the online nomination form are due October 10, 2008. The winners will be honored at the National Crime Victims’ Service Awards Ceremony on April 24, 2009.

On August 28, 2008, at 2 p.m. ET, in recognition of and preparation for the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims on September 25th, OVC is hosting an OVC Web Forum Guest Host Session on delivering victim-sensitive death notifications. Join Janice Harris Lord and Bill Jenkins for the live discussion.

OVC Director Gillis copresented the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) Crime Victim Services award during a general session of the NSA’s 2008 annual conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. The East Baton Rouge (Louisiana) Sheriff's Office received the award, which recognizes “outstanding achievement by a Sheriff’s Office in support of victims.”

OVC is pleased to announce the National Crime Victims’ Rights Week theme for 2009: 25 Years of Rebuilding Lives: Celebrating the Victims of Crime Act, to be observed April 26–May 2, 2009. The International Terrorism Victim Expense Reimbursement Program (ITVERP) reimburses victims of international terrorism abroad for allowable expenses they incur as a direct result of the terrorist act. Find out how to apply for an ITVERP reimbursement.

Since November 2002, Helping Outreach Programs to Expand (HOPE) funds have supported victim service expansion efforts such as PSAs, translations, and hotlines. Find out how to apply for a HOPE grant.

    National Victim Assistance Academy logoBuilding a Career in Crime Victim Services (August 2008)

    Visit OVC’s Training Center to download the latest training materials, including the Foundation-Level Training curriculum from the 2008 National Victim Assistance Academy (NVAA), track 1, which lays the groundwork for building a career in the victim services field.

    Included in this curriculum package is a resource manual covering six victimization topics: child abuse, domestic violence, drunk driving, elder abuse, homicide, and sexual assault.

    The materials for the instructor and participant are available in multiple formats and are free to download.
